Why this trip?

Crete is the cradle of Mediterranean civilization.

The former kingdom of Minos, who imprisoned the legendary Minotaur in a labyrinth from which Theseus managed to escape thanks to Ariadne's thread, Crete is still home to archaeological treasures.

Formerly known as Candia, Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, measuring 260 km in length and 60 km at its widest. It combines all its particularities and offers a very special atmosphere.

Bordered to the north by the Cretan Sea and to the south by the Libyan Sea, the island is also home to three mountain ranges at over 2,000 meters altitude. Sea and mountains are present everywhere, creating exceptional landscapes to discover by motorcycle.

Our exclusive itinerary takes advantage of this particularity to offer maximum riding pleasure, but also to discover and appreciate Cretan geography, gastronomy and hospitality.

The level of difficulty of this route makes it accessible from intermediate level.

 Course of the trip

  • Arrival at Heraklion airport during the day. Transfer to your hotel.

  • Breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to the port to collect bikes and formalities.

We leave Heraklion at around 10:00 am. The road crosses the Trygiodo natural park, heading for Psiloritis (Mount Ida), one of three mountain ranges over 2,000 metres high and the highest on the island. From up there, the 360-degree panorama is breathtaking.

The route continues through the Patsos Gorge towards Rethymnon for the day's stage. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

  • Depart for the villages of Frangokastello and Chora Sfakion on the south coast.

In the afternoon, we cross back over to Chania via the archaeological site of Aptera. Once the capital of Crete, Chania has retained its undeniable charm.

Check-in at the hotel and dinner on the old port.

  • The day begins with a coastal drive along the Gulf of Chania and then the Gulf of Kissamos, before heading south to the magnificent beach of Elafonnissi.

We return to Chania via the road to the White Mountains (Lefka Ori), the island's second-largest massif, whose ever-white peaks offer an almost lunar landscape.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

  • We head south to the Orthodox monastery of Preveli, then on to Matala and Kapetaniana.

The route alternates between breathtaking views of the Libyan Sea and sumptuous panoramas of the Psiloritis peaks.

Overnight at a hotel in a charming high-altitude village.

  • The day begins as it did yesterday. We head for the Gulf of Mirambelos via Mount Dikti, the third highest massif at over 2,000 metres.

The arid, mineral environment is surprisingly colorful as you get closer to the sea.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel in the small tourist town of Ierapetra.

  • Today's shorter stage allows for a later start, heat permitting. The 100% coastal itinerary takes in the Thrypti Mountains and Sitia in the easternmost part of the island, whose jagged, dry coastline is reminiscent of neighboring Africa.

Arrive early to enjoy the hotel. Dinner on the harbor.

  • We return to Heraklion via the coastal road to Spinalonga and Plaka. The return to Heraklion takes us to the vast archaeological site of Knossos, where the legendary King Minos had his palace.

We stop off at the port to return the bikes. For those returning the same day, transfer to Heraklion airport.

For those who have chosen to extend their stay or have a flight the following day, dinner in Heraklion and overnight at the hotel.

  • Breakfast at the hotel. For those returning, check-out and transfer to the airport for the return flight. For those who have taken an extension to the following day or beyond, day at leisure.
